Discover more about Fouha Point

Fouha Point, or Creation Point, is more than just a scenic hiking area; it's a place deeply embedded in Chamorro history and mythology. Located near Humåtak, this National Natural Landmark is dominated by a striking 150-foot rock formation rising from Fouha Bay. According to ancient Chamorro legend, this is Lasso' Fu'a, the final resting place of the goddess Fu'una. Fu'una, along with her brother Puntan, are revered as the creators of the universe. Legend says that Fu'una used her powers to create the earth, sky, sun, moon, and rainbows from Puntan's body. In her final act of creation, she threw herself into the earth, transforming into Fouha Rock, from which the first humans emerged. Because of this, the rock is considered the cradle of creation for the Chamorro people and, in some accounts, for all of humankind. Visiting Fouha Point involves an easy hike through grassy hills and clusters of coconut and banana trees, leading down to the picturesque Fouha Bay. The trail begins near the Guam Power Authority substation WBP-2, just north of Umatac Bay. While the hike is relatively easy, be prepared for an uphill climb on the return and wear appropriate shoes for the sharp limestone, coral, and rocks along the bay. The invigorating sea breeze and crashing waves create a serene atmosphere, ideal for escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Many people still keep the traditions and values of this legend alive today through pilgrimage, song, dance, and offerings.
