Discover more about The Wall

The Wall, situated in the village of Sånta Rita-Sumai, Guam, is more than just a physical structure; it's a symbol of resilience and a window into the island's complex history. The wall is located off an unnamed road in a somewhat remote location. Sånta Rita-Sumai itself is a village with a unique story. Originally, the village was known as Sumay and was located on the Orote Peninsula. However, during World War II, the village was devastated by bombings, and the U.S. military later took control of the area to build Naval Base Guam. The residents of Sumay were relocated to the hills between their former village and Fena, establishing a new settlement named after Saint Rita of Cascia. In August 2021, the village officially changed its name to Sånta Rita-Sumai, recognizing its evolution from the pre-war village of Sumay. Today, Sånta Rita-Sumai is a small, quiet village surrounded by natural water sources. The Wall stands as a reminder of the past, inviting visitors to reflect on the events that have shaped Guam and its people.
