Getting There

  • Driving

    From Tumon or Hagåtña, drive north on Marine Corps Drive (Route 1). Continue onto Route 3, and then turn left onto Route 3A (Potts Junction). Follow Route 3A for approximately 6 miles to the refuge. Be aware that Route 3A has some potholes, so drive carefully. Parking is available in designated areas, including near the Nature Center and along Beach Road. Parking is free.

  • Public Transport

    To reach Ritidian Point by public transportation, take a bus operated by the Guam Regional Transit Authority (GRTA) towards Yigo. Check the GRTA schedule for the most up-to-date routes and times. The bus will drop you off at the nearest stop to Spur Road, from which you may need to walk approximately 1 mile to reach the entrance of the wildlife refuge. A single bus fare is $1.

  • Taxi/Ride-share

    For a more direct route, taxis or ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft are available. A taxi ride from central locations in Guam, such as Dededo, to Ritidian Point typically takes around 23 minutes and could cost between $110 and $140. Ritidian Point, or Puntan Litekyan, located on the northernmost coast of Guam, is a captivating blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. The name “Litekyan” translates to “a stirring place,” possibly referencing the dynamic waters off its shores. As part of the Guam National Wildlife Refuge, this area encompasses approximately 1,217 acres, including both terrestrial and submerged areas, offering a sanctuary for diverse wildlife.Ritidian Point is not only a haven for nature enthusiasts but also holds significant historical value. Archaeological research indicates that the area was once a thriving Chamorro village, predating the arrival of the Spanish in 1521 by over 600 years. Visitors can explore remnants of this ancient village, including latte sets, pottery fragments, and cave drawings, providing a glimpse into the island's past. Recently, a 3,300-year-old fishing camp was also discovered.The refuge is home to a variety of native species, including the endangered Mariana fruit bat, the Mariana crow, native tree snails, and small lizards. The beaches serve as nesting grounds for threatened green sea turtles. Hiking trails, such as the Nature Trail and Latte Loop, allow visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquil surroundings while spotting unique wildlife and enjoying panoramic viewpoints.Visitors can enjoy various activities such as picnicking and exploring the coastline. Keep in mind that swimming is generally not recommended due to strong currents. The visitor center provides valuable information about the local ecology, conservation efforts, and the area's geological significance.
