Discover more about Guam National Wildlife Refuge

Guam National Wildlife Refuge, located on the northern tip of Guam in Yigo, is a sanctuary encompassing approximately 1,217 acres of diverse ecosystems. The refuge includes limestone forests, coastal beaches, and coral reefs, providing critical habitat for native and endangered species. Established in 1993, the Ritidian Unit is the only section open to the public and serves as a vital link between Guam's cultural and natural heritage. Visitors can explore several well-marked trails, offering stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean and the island's interior. The Scenic Overlook on Route 3A provides panoramic views, and on clear days, the island of Rota is visible. The Nature Center features interpretive murals depicting Guam's natural environment before European contact. Hiking trails lead through majestic jungles and historic coconut groves, where you can find a Spanish stone well and latte stones, remnants of the ancient Chamorro people. Ritidian Beach invites visitors to relax and enjoy its crystal-clear waters. The refuge is a nesting area for green sea turtles and a habitat for the Mariana fruit bat, Guam kingfisher, and Mariana crow. The area is also rich in cultural resources, reflecting Guam's complex history, with archaeological sites of pre-Magellan Chamorro villages. Note that the refuge is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, federal holidays, and during hazardous ocean conditions.
