Historically, the area of Oka Point was used as a coconut plantation in 1909. Later, in 1952, the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) was built as a residential nursing school, with the main hospital structure following two years later. The hospital served as a tuberculosis hospital before being converted into a general hospital. The old GMH was demolished around the 1990s.
