Discover more about Ritidian Point

Ritidian Point, located at the northernmost tip of Guam, is a stunning wildlife refuge and a place of significant historical and natural importance. Known in Chamoru as Puntan Litekyan, meaning "a stirring place," this protected area offers visitors a chance to experience Guam's breathtaking beauty and rich biodiversity. The refuge encompasses 1,203 acres, including both terrestrial and submerged areas, providing a sanctuary for native and migratory birds, the endangered Mariana fruit bat, and nesting green sea turtles. The landscape features white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, dramatic limestone cliffs, and lush jungle. Ritidian Point is also rich in cultural history, with archeological sites of a pre-Magellan Chamorro village. Ancient latte stones, pottery fragments, and cave pictographs offer glimpses into the lives of Guam's early inhabitants. The area was also a thriving copra plantation in the 1920s and a high-security Navy communications station during the Cold War. Visitors can explore several well-maintained hiking trails, such as the Nature Trail, Latte Loop, and Ritidian Caves Trail, each offering unique perspectives of the refuge's diverse ecosystems. The visitor center provides informative displays about the local ecology, conservation efforts, and cultural history. While swimming is generally not recommended due to strong currents, the serene beaches are perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, and beachcombing.
