Getting There

  • Driving

    Most visitors arrive at Guam via A.B. Wonpat International Airport. From the airport or Tumon, where most hotels are located, follow Route 1, Marine Corps Drive, south. To reach the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center, continue until the road ends at the Naval Station Guam front gate. The visitor center is to the right, next to the Japanese midget submarine. Parking is free at the Visitor Center and other park units. Keep in mind that the park is spread out over multiple units, so allow at least 2 hours to see them all, and note that restrooms are only available at Asan Beach and Ga'an Point.

  • Public Transport

    While public transportation options directly to the park units may be limited, the War in the Pacific Historical Bus Tour is available. The bus tour departs from Sirena Park (Spanish Bridge at the corner of W. Soledad Ave and Aspinall Ave in Hagatna) and stops at Asan Beach, the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center, and the Asan Bay Overlook and Memorial Wall. Check the park's website or visitor center for current schedules and availability. Standard bus fares apply.

War in the Pacific National Historical Park, established in 1978, is a multi-unit protected area on the U.S. territory of Guam. It honors the bravery and sacrifices of all those involved in the Pacific Theater of World War II, including the United States, Japan, and Allied nations. The park spans 2,037 acres across seven distinct units, each bearing witness to the island's pivotal role in the war. Visitors can explore former battlefields, gun emplacements, trenches, caves, and historic structures. Key sites include Asan Beach, the location of the northern American landings during the recapture of Guam in July 1944, and Ga'an Point, offering a glimpse into the Japanese forces' fortified positions. The T. Stell Newman Visitor Center features interactive exhibits and films portraying the events of the Battle of Guam and the stories of combat veterans and Chamorros. The Asan Bay Overlook features a Memorial Wall etched with the names of American servicemen who died defending Guam and the people of Guam who suffered during the occupation. Guam was captured by Japanese forces in 1941 and occupied for four years. On July 21, 1944, American forces launched a successful invasion to retake the island. The park conserves and interprets Guam's history and culture, honoring the bravery and sacrifices of all who were involved.
