    Discover more about Museo Miraflores

Located in Guatemala City's Zone 11, Museo Miraflores is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting artifacts from the ancient Maya city of Kaminaljuyu. Founded in 2002, the museum sits on the southern edge of what was once Kaminaljuyu, covering approximately 1,200 square meters. The museum is privately owned and operated by the Fundación Miraflores. The museum's collection includes around 500 artifacts excavated from Kaminaljuyu between 1994 and 1996. Exhibits feature pottery, jewelry, sculptures, and obsidian objects, providing a glimpse into the lives and traditions of the ancient Maya. Not all artifacts are local; some originate from other Guatemalan sites that had contact with Kaminaljuyu. Highlights include a mosaic mask of jade and a sculpted stone atlante column. Within the museum grounds, three preserved mounds (Structures B-V-3, B-V-4, and B-V-5) offer a tangible connection to the past. The museum also features a permanent exhibition hall, a temporary exhibition hall, and a mezzanine displaying archaeological photographs. Visitors can explore a shop and cafeteria, and attend workshops, conferences, and courses held at the venue. The entrance hall displays a map of the ancient city overlaid with the modern streets of Guatemala City. The Museo Miraflores aims to be a cultural hub, offering a range of experiences for locals and tourists alike. It provides guided tours, specialized conferences, and exhibits on Guatemalan textiles and modern art.
