From Flores, the most common gateway to Tikal, tourist shuttles offer convenient transport to the park. These shuttles can be booked through local travel agencies or online. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours. A round-trip shuttle typically costs around Q60 per person. Be sure to confirm if the shuttle stops at the ticket office (17 km from the park entrance) or if you need to purchase your ticket beforehand in Flores.

  • Taxi

Taxis are available from Flores to Tikal, offering a more direct and private transportation option. Negotiate the fare before starting your journey. A one-way taxi ride can cost around Q200-Q300. Discover more about Tikal National Park

Tikal National Park, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979, encompasses 575 square kilometers of jungle and thousands of ruined structures. The park is located in the Petén region of northern Guatemala and is part of the Maya Biosphere Reserve. Tikal, likely called Yax Mutal, was a major Mayan city that flourished between 200 and 900 AD, reaching its peak during the Classic Period. Explore the ancient city's ceremonial center, which features temples, palaces, and public squares accessed by ramps. The most iconic structures include the Temple of the Great Jaguar (Temple I), the Temple of the Masks (Temple II), and Temple IV, the Temple of the Bicephalous Serpent. These temples, constructed primarily during the 8th century AD, showcase the architectural prowess of the Maya civilization. As you wander through the park, observe the diverse wildlife that inhabits the surrounding rainforest. Howler monkeys, spider monkeys, toucans, and coatis are commonly spotted amidst the lush vegetation. The park is open daily from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Consider visiting early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid crowds and witness the jungle awakening or settling for the night.
