Getting There

    From Antigua, take the road towards Ciudad Vieja and then to Santa Lucía Milpas Altas. Continue towards Magdalena Milpas Altas. Once in Magdalena Milpas Altas, follow the signs to Corazón de Agua. The road to the park becomes narrower and dustier as you approach. Parking is available at the park entrance for Q20. Entrance fee to the park is Q25 per person.

  • Public Transport

    From Guatemala City, take a bus to San Lucas Sacatepéquez. From San Lucas, take a taxi or 'tuk-tuk' to Corazón de Agua in Magdalena Milpas Altas. The bus fare from Guatemala City to San Lucas is approximately Q10-Q15. A taxi from San Lucas to Corazón de Agua will cost around Q50-Q75.

Corazón de Agua, or "Heart of Water," is an ecological park located in the municipality of Magdalena Milpas Altas, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. This natural sanctuary, a short distance from Antigua, offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the beauty of Guatemala's highlands. Originally named Santa María Magdalena de la Real Corona, Magdalena Milpas Altas officially became a municipality in 1825. Corazón de Agua Ecological Park opened in 2005 after refurbishment and is well-maintained by park rangers. The park's name, obscuyá in the Kaqchikel language, means "water spring," reflecting the area's numerous natural springs that supply water to the municipality. At 2,440 meters above sea level, Corazón de Agua boasts panoramic views of Lake Amatitlán, the surrounding volcanoes (Pacaya, Agua, and Fuego), and even glimpses of the Pacific Ocean on clear days. The park features well-marked hiking trails that wind through a cloud forest, showcasing diverse flora and fauna. Visitors can explore various miradors (viewpoints), picnic areas, and even swings. Camping is also permitted, with firewood available for purchase. Corazón de Agua is committed to conservation, allowing visitors to learn about local ecosystems and the importance of environmental stewardship.
