Discover more about Museo Del Nispero

Museo Del Nispero, a small yellow house at the entrance of San Juan del Obispo, is dedicated to the loquat fruit (níspero in Spanish), a local specialty with a rich history. Bishop Francisco Marroquín is said to have brought the fruit to the community from Spain. The museum, known to both international and local tourists, is filled with the history of the fruit. Procopio Lobos began the love for the fruit when he started “Lobos Vino,” a handmade loquat wine. The wine has the flavors of pear, apple, quince, peach, and cherry, which tourists enjoy. The Lobos family also makes loquat ice cream and tea. Inside the museum are photos of visitors, celebrities, and tourists who have visited. The wines are harvested from the Lobos family land on the slopes of the Volcán de Agua. Visit San Juan del Obispo and try the different wines made from fruits grown on the Volcán de Agua (Hunapú), which have unique flavors. The Loquat Festival takes place in San Juan del Obispo in November. Visit the loquat farm and learn about the production process.
