Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, first make your way to San Vicente Pacaya. From the center of San Vicente Pacaya, look for signs directing you to Pacaya Volcano National Park. Drive along the main road towards the park entrance, which is approximately 5 km away. At the entrance, you'll find a parking area where you can leave your car for a nominal fee of around 10 Q (Guatemalan Quetzals). From the parking area, you'll need to hike to Tercera Parada, which is about 2.5 km up the trail. The hike will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on your pace.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Tercera Parada using public transportation, catch a bus or shuttle from Guatemala City to San Vicente Pacaya. Look for buses heading to Escuintla or Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa, as they often stop in San Vicente Pacaya. The fare is typically around 30-50 Q. Once you arrive in San Vicente Pacaya, you can either walk to the park entrance (about 1 km from the bus stop) or hire a local tuk-tuk for approximately 20 Q. At the park entrance, you will pay a small entry fee (around 50 Q), and then embark on the 2.5 km hike to Tercera Parada.

• Guided Tour

  Consider joining a guided tour that includes transportation from Guatemala City or Antigua. These tours typically cover the cost of entry to the park and provide a guide to help navigate the trails. The price for such tours can vary greatly, starting around 150 Q and going up to 400 Q or more depending on the inclusions. This option is ideal for those who prefer a hassle-free experience, as all transportation and logistics are taken care of.
