Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey in the town of Bartica. Head east on the Bartica to Mazaruni Road (also known as the Bartica-Linden Highway). Continue for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the junction with the Puruni Road. Turn left onto Puruni Road and follow it for about 45 kilometers. The road will eventually lead you to Puruni Landing, located at the coordinates 6.2400641, -59.3689561. Be prepared for rough road conditions, and consider the time of year, as some areas may be more challenging to navigate during the rainy season.
Public Transportation
To reach Puruni Landing using public transportation, take a minibus from Bartica to the Puruni River. These minibuses depart regularly from the main bus park in Bartica. Ensure you confirm the destination with the driver before boarding. The journey will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions. Once you arrive at the Puruni River, you may need to hire a boat to take you directly to Puruni Landing. Boat fares can vary, so it’s advisable to negotiate the price beforehand. Expect to pay around GYD 2,000 to GYD 3,000 for the boat ride.
