Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the main city in Artibonite, such as Gonaïves. Take Route Nationale #1 north towards Port-de-Paix. After approximately 30 km, look for signs indicating Vaseux. Turn onto the road leading to Vaseux. Continue on this road for about 10 km. As you approach Vaseux, look for the sign for Laferriere Citadel. The citadel is located at HQF4+4H3, Vaseux. Make sure to check the road conditions as they can vary.
Public Transport
To reach Laferriere Citadel using public transportation, take a 'tap-tap' (shared taxi) from Gonaïves to Vaseux. The ride will take approximately 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Vaseux, you may need to negotiate with local drivers for a motorcycle taxi (moto) to take you to the citadel, which is about 10 km away. Expect to pay around 200 HTG for the moto ride. Make sure to confirm the price before starting your journey.
Walking
If you are already in Vaseux, you can walk to Laferriere Citadel. Head north from the town center, following local signs toward the citadel. The walk will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated, as it can be a bit challenging due to the terrain.
Use Laferriere Citadel as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
