Getting There

  • Walking

    From the central area of Cap-Haïtien, start at the Place d'Armes, the main square in front of the Cathedral. Head northeast on Rue de la Réunion. Walk for about 10 minutes until you reach Boulevard du Cap. Turn left onto Boulevard du Cap and continue for approximately 20 minutes, passing by local shops and eateries. You will eventually reach a bus station where you can find shared taxis (tap-tap) that go towards Milot. Take a tap-tap to Milot, which will cost around 50 HTG. Once you arrive in Milot, ask for directions to the Citadelle Laferrière. From Milot, it’s about a 30-minute walk up the hill to the Citadel entrance. Follow the path upwards until you see the impressive structure of Laferrière Citadel.

    From Place d'Armes in Cap-Haïtien, find a tap-tap heading towards Milot. The ride will take around 25-30 minutes. Once you arrive in Milot, ask the driver to drop you off near the entrance to the path leading to Laferrière Citadel. After getting off, you will need to walk about 30-40 minutes uphill to reach the Citadel. Follow the signs and the path that leads up through the lush greenery until you reach the historic site.
