Car
If you're driving from Côtes-de-Fer, head northwest on Route Nationale #1 (RN1) towards Marmelade. Continue on RN1 for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the junction with Route de la Citadelle. Turn left onto Route de la Citadelle and follow the signs towards Laferriere Citadel. The last stretch to the Citadel is a steep and winding road. Make sure to drive carefully, as the area can be challenging. Upon arrival, there is a parking area near the entrance.
Public Transportation
Catch a local bus or tap-tap (shared taxi) from Côtes-de-Fer to the nearest town, Marmelade. Buses usually depart from the main square in Côtes-de-Fer. The fare is typically around 50 HTG (Haitian Gourde). Once in Marmelade, you will need to hire a motorcycle taxi (moto) or arrange a private car to take you to Laferriere Citadel. The moto fare may cost around 200-300 HTG depending on negotiation. Be sure to agree on the price before starting your journey.
Hiking
For the adventurous, you can hike from the nearest access point at Route de la Citadelle. It's recommended to start early in the morning. The hike takes about 2-3 hours depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water. This route offers stunning views and a chance to experience the local flora and fauna. Note that a local guide can enhance your experience and ensure safety, typically costing around 1000 HTG.
