Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the main harbor area of Île-à-Vache. Follow the main road heading southeast towards the village of Les Cayes. The approximate drive time is about 30 minutes. Once you reach the trailhead, you can park your car in the designated area.

• Motorbike or Scooter

  For a more adventurous option, consider renting a motorbike or scooter. Depart from the main harbor area and head southeast towards Les Cayes. The journey will offer you more flexibility and the chance to explore the island at your own pace. Be cautious on the roads, as they can be uneven. The travel time is similar to that of a car, around 30 minutes. Park at the trailhead upon arrival.

• Public Transportation (Tap-Tap)

  For those using public transportation, take a 'tap-tap' (shared taxi) from the main harbor area. These colorful pickups often travel to popular destinations on the island. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest point to Pic Macaya. This option is budget-friendly, with fares typically ranging from 100 to 200 Haitian Gourdes per person. The ride should take about 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the number of stops along the way. From the drop-off point, you may need to walk a bit to reach the trailhead.

• Hiking

  Once you arrive at the trailhead, you will need to hike to reach the peak of Pic Macaya. The trail is well-marked but can be steep and uneven in places. Ensure you wear appropriate footwear and carry water. The hike can take between 1.5 to 3 hours depending on your fitness level. Be sure to start early in the morning to avoid the midday heat and allow ample time to enjoy the views at the top.
