Car
From Mátra, take Route 21 towards Budapest. Merge onto the M3 motorway towards Budapest. Continue on the M3 for approximately 75 km. Take the exit toward Budaörs/Érd and merge onto the M1 motorway. Follow the signs for Budapest. After entering the city, follow the signs for Buda Castle. You can park at the designated parking areas near the castle, but be aware that parking fees may apply, typically around 500 HUF per hour.
Public Transportation - Train and Bus
First, travel from Mátra to Budapest by train. Head to the nearest train station and take a train to Budapest Keleti station. Upon arriving at Keleti, transfer to metro line M2 (red line) towards Déli Pályaudvar. Get off at Széll Kálmán tér. From there, take the bus number 16 or 16A which goes directly to the Buda Castle area. Be prepared to pay for your train and metro tickets, which typically cost around 1,000 HUF for the train and 350 HUF for the metro.
Public Transportation - Direct Bus
If you prefer a direct route, check for intercity buses from Mátra to Budapest. Once you arrive at one of Budapest's main bus stations (e.g., Népliget), take metro line M3 (blue line) towards Újpest-Központ and transfer to M2 (red line) at Deák Ferenc tér, heading towards Déli Pályaudvar. Get off at Széll Kálmán tér, then take bus number 16 or 16A to reach Buda Castle. Remember to purchase tickets for the bus and metro, which will cost approximately 350 HUF each.
