Car
If you're traveling by car, head towards Budapest and take the M3 motorway towards the north. After approximately 30 kilometers, take the exit towards 'Budapest, Óbuda' (Exit 16). Follow the signs for 'Bécsi út' and continue on this road until you reach the 'Hűvösvölgy' area. From Hűvösvölgy, follow the signs for 'Mátyás-hegy'. There are parking facilities available at the base, but be aware that parking may incur a fee of around 300 HUF per hour.
Public Transportation
To reach Mátyás-hegy using public transportation, start by taking the suburban train (HÉV) from central Budapest (e.g., from Deák Ferenc tér) to 'Békásmegyer' station. Transfer to bus number 65 or 165 at Békásmegyer and ride until you reach the 'Hűvösvölgy' stop. From Hűvösvölgy, you will need to walk approximately 2 kilometers uphill to reach Mátyás-hegy. Alternatively, you can use the 29 bus from Hűvösvölgy to get closer, though it may not drop you directly at the peak.
Walking
Once you arrive at Hűvösvölgy, you can enjoy a scenic walk to Mátyás-hegy. The trail is well-marked and offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. The walk is about 2 kilometers and should take approximately 30-40 minutes. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for some steep inclines as you approach the peak.
