Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, navigate to Gyula using the following directions: From Szeged, take the M5 motorway towards Budapest. After about 120 kilometers, merge onto the Route 44 towards Gyula. Continue on Route 44 for approximately 45 kilometers until you reach the town of Gyula. Once in Gyula, follow signs for the 'Gyulai vár' (Gyula Castle), which is located at Gyulai vár, 5700 Gyula. There is parking available near the castle, but be aware of potential parking fees.

• Train

  To reach Gyula by train, board a train from major cities like Szeged or Budapest. The train station in Gyula is centrally located, and trains run regularly. Once you arrive at the Gyula train station, you can either walk to the castle (about a 15-minute walk) or take a local bus. If walking, head north on Kossuth Lajos utca, then turn left onto Gyulai vár street to arrive at the castle. Train tickets cost approximately 1,500 HUF from Szeged.

• Bus

  If you prefer to travel by bus, you can take a bus from major Southern Great Plain cities like Szeged or Békéscsaba to Gyula. The bus station is also in the town center, a short distance from Gyula Castle. After arriving at Gyula bus station, you can walk to the castle (around 15 minutes). Take Kossuth Lajos utca north and then turn left onto Gyulai vár street. Bus tickets typically cost around 1,200 HUF from Szeged.

• Local Transportation

  Once in Gyula, you can also use local taxis or rideshare services to get to Gyula Castle if you prefer not to walk. Taxi services are available from the train and bus stations, and a short ride to the castle should cost around 1,500 HUF.
