Walking
From the center of Akureyri, start at the Akureyri Tourist Information Center located at Hafnarstræti 11. Head south on Hafnarstræti towards Glerárgata. Turn left onto Glerárgata and walk until you reach the intersection with Þjóðvegur road. Turn right onto Þjóðvegur and continue walking for about 5 kilometers. You will pass several small shops and cafes along the way. Be sure to watch for road signs indicating Tunneleingang 1. The entrance is located on your right side.
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in central Akureyri, such as Akureyri Bike Rental. Head towards the main road, Þjóðvegur, by cycling south on Hafnarstræti and then taking a left onto Glerárgata. After reaching Þjóðvegur, turn right and cycle for approximately 5 kilometers. The route is mostly flat and provides a pleasant ride through the scenic surroundings. Look for the sign for Tunneleingang 1 on your right.
Public Transport
Check the local bus schedule for the route that goes to Þjóðvegur. Board the bus at the nearest bus stop in the city center, such as the one outside the Akureyri Tourist Information Center. Stay on the bus until you reach the stop nearest to Þjóðvegur. From there, walk approximately 1 kilometer down Þjóðvegur, keeping an eye out for the Tunneleingang 1 sign on your right.
