Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey in the town of Egilsstaðir, which is a central hub in the East Fjords. From Egilsstaðir, take Route 93 south towards Breiðdalsvík. Continue on this road for approximately 35 km until you reach the intersection with Route 1 (the Ring Road). Here, turn left onto Route 1 and continue for another 35 km. Look for the exit towards Route 96, which leads to Stöðvarfjörður. Follow Route 96 for about 15 km, then turn onto Route 96 towards Fáskrúðsfjörður. After approximately 20 km, you'll see signs for Búlandstindur. The mountain is located just off Route 96. There is no cost for driving, but be mindful of fuel prices, which can be higher in remote areas.
Public Transportation
If you choose to use public transportation, take a bus from Egilsstaðir to Fáskrúðsfjörður. Bus services are available, but schedules can be limited, so check the latest timetable online or at the bus station. Once you arrive in Fáskrúðsfjörður, you will need to arrange for a taxi or local shuttle service to get to Búlandstindur, which is about 10 km away. It's advisable to book the taxi in advance, as they may not be readily available in the area. Be aware that public transport may take longer and could require waiting times.
Hiking
For the adventurous, you can hike to Búlandstindur from nearby areas. If you’re in Fáskrúðsfjörður, you can start your hike from there. Follow the marked trails that lead towards the mountain. The hike is moderately challenging and takes approximately 2-3 hours depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and carry enough water and snacks. There are no costs associated with hiking, but always check local weather conditions before embarking on your journey.
