Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Egilsstaðir, the nearest town to Hengifoss. From Egilsstaðir, head southwest on Road 1 (the Ring Road) for about 5 kilometers. Then take the exit onto Fljótsdalsvegur (Road 931). Continue on Fljótsdalsvegur for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the Hengifoss parking area, which is well marked. The parking lot is located at the base of the hiking trail leading to Hengifoss. Please note that parking may incur a small fee, typically around 500 ISK, so be prepared to pay upon arrival.

For those using public transportation, take a bus from Egilsstaðir to the nearby town of Seyðisfjörður. Bus services are available through various companies, and you can check the schedules at the Egilsstaðir bus station. From Seyðisfjörður, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a local shuttle service to take you to the Hengifoss trailhead. It's advisable to book the taxi in advance, as availability may be limited. Be prepared for the taxi fare, which could range between 5,000 to 10,000 ISK depending on the distance and time of day.
