Car
If you're driving, start by heading to the town of Egilsstaðir, which is a central hub in the Eastern Region. From Egilsstaðir, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading north for about 30 km. Look for the sign for Route 931 to Stuðlagil Canyon. Turn left onto Route 931 and continue for approximately 15 km. You will see a sign for Stuðlafoss Waterfall; follow the dirt road to the parking area. The last stretch to the waterfall involves a short hike from the parking lot, which is well-marked.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from Egilsstaðir to the nearby town of Seyðisfjörður. Check the local bus schedules for specific times. Once in Seyðisfjörður, you will need to hire a taxi or arrange for a local guide to take you to Stuðlafoss Waterfall, as public transport does not reach the waterfall directly. Expect to pay around 10,000 ISK for a taxi ride, which can accommodate multiple passengers.
Hiking
For those who enjoy hiking, after reaching the parking area from the dirt road, you will need to hike approximately 2 km to reach the waterfall itself. The path is well-defined but can be rocky in places, so wear sturdy footwear. This hike offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, so take your time and enjoy the scenery along the way.
