Getting There

Walking
Start from the center of Egilsstaðir at the Egilsstaðir Town Hall. Head south on Aðalstræti (the main street), and continue straight for about 1 km until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Fljotsdalsvegur (Route 1). Keep walking along this road for approximately 3 km. You will see signs for Hengifoss along the way. The walking path to Hengifoss will be on your left after you see a small parking area. Follow the path which leads to the waterfall.

Bicycle
If you have access to a bicycle, start from the Egilsstaðir Town Hall. Ride south on Aðalstræti for about 1 km to the roundabout. Take the second exit at the roundabout onto Fljotsdalsvegur (Route 1). Continue for approximately 3 km on the Fljotsdalsvegur. Look for the signs indicating Hengifoss, where you can park your bicycle near the trailhead. The hiking path will start from there and leads directly to the waterfall.

Public Transportation
From the Egilsstaðir Bus Station, check the local bus schedule for buses heading towards Fljotsdalur. Board the bus and ask the driver to drop you off at the Hengifoss stop. The bus ride should take about 20 minutes. Once you arrive at the stop, follow the signs to the hiking trail, which will lead you to Hengifoss. The trail is approximately 5 km long with an elevation gain of 300 meters.
