Bus
To get to Hveragerði from Hafnarfjörður, start by heading to the nearest bus stop. You can find bus stops throughout Hafnarfjörður. The most convenient stop is likely at Hafnarfjörður town center. From there, take Bus number 1 towards Reykjavík. After approximately 20 minutes, you will need to transfer at the Reykjavík bus terminal (Hlemmur). Once at Hlemmur, look for Bus number 51, which goes directly to Hveragerði. The bus ride should take around 30 minutes. Be sure to check the bus schedule for the latest times, as they can vary.
Walking and Bus
If you prefer to walk a bit, you can take a leisurely stroll towards the main bus terminal in Hafnarfjörður. This walk is about 15-20 minutes depending on your location. Once you reach the bus terminal, board Bus number 1 towards Reykjavík. After about 20 minutes, switch at the Reykjavík bus terminal (Hlemmur) for Bus number 51 to Hveragerði. The total travel time will be around 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes depending on waiting times between buses.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous and have rented a bicycle, you can cycle from Hafnarfjörður to Hveragerði. Start by heading north towards Route 1, which is the main road. Follow Route 1 for about 20 kilometers. The ride will take you through beautiful Icelandic landscapes, and you can stop along the way for scenic views. The journey will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Make sure to wear a helmet and be cautious of any traffic.
