Car
If you're driving, head towards Kerlingarfjöll from the nearest town, Hella. Take Route 26 northbound until you reach the junction with F35 (the Kjölur Route). Turn right onto F35 and continue for about 30 km until you reach the Kerlingarfjöll area. Once inside Kerlingarfjöll, follow the signs towards the photopoint located on Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri. The photopoint is approximately a 5-minute drive from the main parking area.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transport, take a bus from Reykjavik to Hella. From Hella, you will need to book a tour that specifically includes transportation to Kerlingarfjöll, as public transport options to the area are limited. Once you arrive at Kerlingarfjöll, it’s a short walk or a quick drive (if part of a guided tour) to the photopoint on Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri, which is easily accessible from the main tourist areas.
Walking
If you are already in the Kerlingarfjöll area and prefer to walk to the photopoint, start from the main visitor center. Head east towards the marked hiking trails. Follow the signs to Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri, which will lead you directly to the photopoint. The walk takes approximately 20-30 minutes depending on your pace, and the trail is well marked and scenic.
