Walking
From the main parking area in Landmannalaugar, start by heading towards the marked hiking trails. Follow the signs for the 'Rauðaskál' trail. The trailhead is well-marked and can be found to the east of the parking lot. The hike to Rauðaskál is approximately 4 km and takes about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your pace. The trail will take you through stunning landscapes and offer views of the surrounding mountains and rhyolite formations.

Public Transportation (Bus)
If you are traveling from Reykjavik or another location, take a bus operated by Strætó or a specialized tour company that offers routes to Landmannalaugar. Be sure to check the schedule in advance, as these buses have limited service, especially outside of peak summer months. The bus will drop you off at the main bus stop in Landmannalaugar. From there, follow the walking instructions above to reach Rauðaskál.

Car (4x4 Vehicle Required)
If you are driving, ensure you have a 4x4 vehicle as the F-roads leading to Landmannalaugar can be rugged and challenging. From Reykjavik, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) towards Selfoss, then turn onto Route 32 towards Þingvellir and continue to Route 26. Follow signs for F208, which leads directly to Landmannalaugar. Once you arrive at the parking area, follow the walking instructions above to reach Rauðaskál.
