Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from Reykjavik and take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading north. Drive for approximately 90 km until you reach the turnoff for Route 35 (Borgarnes) towards Langjökull Glacier. Follow Route 35 for about 45 km. After passing the Húsafell area, look for signs indicating Langjökull. You will take a left onto Route 550, which leads directly to the glacier's access points. Be aware that this road can be rough and is best suited for 4x4 vehicles.

• Public Transport

  To reach Langjökull via public transport, take a bus from Reykjavik to Borgarnes. The bus journey lasts around 1.5 hours. From Borgarnes, you will need to transfer to a smaller bus service that operates tours to Langjökull Glacier. Make sure to book this in advance, as seats can fill up quickly during peak tourist seasons. The total travel time can take around 3-4 hours depending on the connections.

• Guided Tour

  Consider joining a guided tour that departs from Reykjavik. Many companies offer day trips to Langjökull Glacier, which typically include transportation, a guided experience on the glacier, and necessary equipment. Prices may vary, but expect to pay between 12,000 ISK to 25,000 ISK per person depending on the inclusions and duration of the tour. This is a great option for those who prefer not to drive or navigate the area alone.

• Taxi or Ride-hailing

  If you prefer a more direct and flexible option, you can hire a taxi or use a ride-hailing service from Reykjavik to Langjökull. This can be quite expensive, typically costing upwards of 25,000 ISK one way. Make sure to arrange for the return trip, as finding a taxi in remote areas can be challenging.
