Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest major town, which is Landmannalaugar. Follow the marked road leading from Landmannalaugar towards Þórsmörk. The route is F-208, a highland road, so ensure your vehicle is suitable for F-roads. After approximately 30 km, look for signs directing you towards the Fimmvörðuháls hiking route. You'll need to pay a toll for using this highland road, typically around 1,500 ISK. Continue until you reach the trailhead for Fimmvörðuháls, where you can park your car.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, you can take a bus from Reykjavik to Landmannalaugar. This service operates during the summer months and costs around 8,000 ISK one way. Once you arrive at Landmannalaugar, you will need to hike to Rollutorfufoss. Start your hike on the Fimmvörðuháls trail, which is well-marked. The hike is approximately 22 km long and will take you about 6-8 hours. Make sure to plan your return as public transport may have limited schedules.
Hiking
If you're already on the Laugavegur Trail, simply continue towards Fimmvörðuháls. From your location on the trail, follow the signs towards the Fimmvörðuháls Pass. After reaching the pass, you will descend towards Rollutorfufoss, which is located along the trail. Be prepared for a hike of approximately 6-8 hours from the Laugavegur Trail intersection to reach Rollutorfufoss.
