Car
From Akureyri, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading west. Continue for about 90 kilometers until you reach the town of Blönduós. From Blönduós, take Route 68 towards Húnavatnssýsla. Continue on Route 68 until you reach the junction with Route 711, where you will turn left. Follow Route 711 until you reach the Surtshellir cave, which is located near Deildartunguhver. Please note that parking is available near the site.
Public Transportation
Take a bus from Akureyri to Borgarnes, which is on the way to Surtshellir. From Borgarnes, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a local rideshare to reach Surtshellir, as public transport does not go directly to the cave. Ensure to check bus schedules in advance, as they may vary by season. The approximate cost for the bus is around 3,000 ISK, and the taxi fare from Borgarnes to Surtshellir can range from 10,000 to 15,000 ISK.
