Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, head towards the town of Húsavík, located on the north coast. From Húsavík, take Route 1 (also known as the Ring Road) heading west. Continue on Route 1 until you reach Route 85. Take the exit onto Route 85 towards Þjóðveldisbærinn. After approximately 10 km, follow the signs to Þjóðveldisbærinn (The Commonwealth farm), which will be on your left. Make sure to check your fuel level as gas stations can be sparse in rural areas.

• Public Transportation

  To reach The Commonwealth farm via public transport, take a bus from Akureyri to Húsavík. Buses are operated by Strætó (www.straeto.is). Once you arrive in Húsavík, you will need to arrange for a taxi to take you to Þjóðveldisbærinn, as public transportation may not directly reach the farm. The taxi ride should take about 15 minutes and cost approximately ISK 3,000-5,000, depending on the time of day.

• Taxi

  If you are already in a nearby town such as Húsavík or Akureyri and prefer a direct route, you can use a taxi service to reach The Commonwealth farm. Check local taxi services for availability. Expect to pay around ISK 6,000-10,000 for the trip, depending on your starting point.

• Walking/Cycling

  For the adventurous, if you are close to Þjóðveldisbærinn, consider walking or cycling. The surrounding landscape is scenic, and you can enjoy the fresh air. Ensure you have proper maps and gear, as the roads can be uneven and traffic may be present. If you are starting from Húsavík, the distance is about 10 km, which can be a pleasant day trip.
