Car

From Reykjahlíð, take Route 1 heading north for about 5 km, then turn right onto the gravel road (F road 848) leading directly to Leirhnjúkur. Follow this road for about 10 km until you reach the parking area near the geothermal area. Note that a 4WD vehicle is recommended for this road due to its rough condition. There are no tolls on this route.
