If you are driving, start from the Skaftafell Visitor Center. Head south on Route 1 (Ring Road) towards Kirkjubæjarklaustur. After approximately 45 minutes, you will see a sign for Mossy Lava Fields on your left. Follow the signs and take the indicated exit. The parking area is nearby, and from there, the lava fields are within a short walking distance.

To reach Mossy Lava Fields via public transportation, take a bus from the Skaftafell Visitor Center to Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services can be limited. Once you arrive at Kirkjubæjarklaustur, you will need to walk approximately 20 minutes to reach the Mossy Lava Fields. Follow the signs towards the lava fields, and enjoy the scenic walk.

For those already in Skaftafell and wishing to hike to the Mossy Lava Fields, take Route 1 south from the Visitor Center. Walk along the roadside for approximately 6 km, keeping an eye out for the signs directing you to the lava fields. This hike will provide stunning views of the surrounding landscape, but be sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water.
