If you are driving, start on Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading west from Reykjavik. After about 40 minutes, take the exit towards Route 43 towards Reykjanesbær. Continue on Route 43 for approximately 15 minutes until you reach the town of Sandgerði. From Sandgerði, follow Route 426 towards the coast, then turn left onto Route 427. Continue on this road until you see signs for Katlahraun Lava. The lava fields will be on your left side shortly after you enter the area.
