Getting there

Car

If you are driving, navigate to Þórsmörk by following Route 1 (the Ring Road) until you reach the turnoff for Route 249 towards Þórsmörk. Continue on Route 249 until you reach the parking area at the entrance of Þórsmörk. From the parking area, you will need to hike approximately 2 kilometers along the marked trails to reach Básar Hut & campsite. Look for signs directing you to Básar as you walk, and enjoy the scenic beauty of the area.

Public Transportation

For those using public transportation, take a bus from Reykjavik to Þórsmörk. The bus companies, such as Reykjavik Excursions or Sterna, operate daily services during the summer months. Make sure to check the schedule and book your tickets in advance, as spots can fill up quickly. Upon arrival at Þórsmörk, you will need to walk approximately 2 kilometers to reach Básar Hut & campsite. Follow the marked trails and signage towards Básar.

Hiking

Once you are in Þórsmörk, you can also choose to hike to Básar Hut & campsite from nearby trailheads. If you are coming from the Þórsmörk Visitor Centre, head towards the main trail leading to Básar.
