Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Borgarnes. Take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading southeast. Continue for about 60 kilometers (37 miles) until you reach the junction with Route 36. Turn left onto Route 36 and continue for approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) until you arrive at the Thingvellir National Park entrance. There is an entrance fee of approximately ISK 750 (around $5) per vehicle. Once inside the park, follow the signs to Drekkingarhylur, which is located along a scenic walking path.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Reykjavik to Thingvellir National Park. Bus services such as Sterna or Reykjavik Excursions operate routes to the park regularly. The trip takes approximately 1 hour and costs around ISK 3,000 (about $20) one way. Once you arrive at Thingvellir, you will need to walk approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) to reach Drekkingarhylur.
