If you're traveling by car, start on Route 1 (the Ring Road) and head towards the Westfjords region. From the town of Blönduós, take Route 68 towards Víðidalstunga. Continue on Route 68 until you reach the junction with Route 1. Turn left onto Route 1 and follow it until you see signs for Kolugljúfur Canyon, which is located about 15 kilometers from Víðidalstunga. The canyon itself is located at the coordinates 65.3333817, -20.5712958; follow the road signs to the canyon's parking area. Note that the roads can be narrow and winding, so drive carefully, especially in inclement weather.

If you're relying on public transport, your best option is to take a bus from Reykjavík to Blönduós. Once in Blönduós, you should look for a local bus service that heads towards Víðidalstunga. Be aware that public transportation in rural Iceland can be limited, so check the bus schedules in advance. Once you reach Víðidalstunga, you may need to arrange for a taxi or shuttle service to cover the last stretch to Kolugljúfur Canyon, as public transport options may not go directly to the canyon. For the adventurous, biking is an option. You can rent a bike in Blönduós and ride towards Víðidalstunga. The distance is approximately 30 kilometers and will take you through some beautiful scenery. Once you reach Víðidalstunga, you will still need to bike or find a taxi to reach Kolugljúfur Canyon, which is about 15 kilometers further.
