The Rev. James Caldwell Chapter NSDAR owns and operates the mansion, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. Tradition suggests that Abraham Lincoln, a contemporary and political ally of Duncan, visited the home.Key features of the mansion include its grand three-story structure, twin chimneys, and a walnut stairway designed to accommodate Mrs. Duncan's petite stature. The bell hanging under the main floor porch was purchased in 1882 and used to call in field hands.
