Walking
The Makanda Boardwalk is located in the heart of Makanda, easily accessible on foot from most points within the village. If you are coming from the Makanda Inn, simply walk a half mile north. From the Smiley Face Water Tower, walk south on Makanda Road. The boardwalk is located on the east side of the road.

Driving
If driving from Carbondale, take Route 51 south to Makanda. Turn east onto Makanda Road. The Makanda Boardwalk will be on your left. Parking is available along the street. Be aware that parking can be limited during peak season and on weekends. There is no fee to park.

Public Transport
JAX Mass Transit offers the Southern Outdoor Access Route (SOAR) on Saturdays from July through September, providing free transportation from Carbondale to various destinations in Southern Illinois, including Makanda. Check the JAX Mass Transit website for the schedule and pick-up locations. Alternatively, JAX Mass Transit also offers an ADA Paratransit service.
