    The Illinois State Museum is located in downtown Springfield, a block southwest of the Illinois State Capitol. From the Capitol, walk south on Spring Street to the intersection of Spring and Edwards Streets. The museum is on the west side of Spring Street.

    The Springfield Mass Transit District (SMTD) provides bus service to the Illinois State Museum. Several routes stop near the Capitol Complex. From the SMTD bus terminal, transfer to a route that serves the Capitol area. Get off at a stop near the Illinois State Capitol and walk south on Spring Street to the museum. A single ride fare is $1.

  • Driving

    The Illinois State Museum is located at 502 S Spring Street in Springfield. From I-55, take the Clear Lake Avenue exit and head east. Turn left onto S 9th Street, then turn right onto E Edwards Street. Continue on Edwards Street to S Spring Street. The museum will be on your right. Free parking is available in the lot on the southwest corner of Spring and Edwards Streets. Metered parking is available along Edwards Street. Be aware of the time limits. Free parking is also available at the State Capitol Complex Visitors Center Lot, one block west of the Museum.
