If you're traveling by car from within Matthiessen State Park, exit the park onto IL-178 N. Continue on IL-178 N for about 2.5 miles until you reach the intersection with IL-6 N. Turn left onto IL-6 N and continue for approximately 4 miles. After reaching the city of La Salle, turn right onto A St. The I&M Canal Boat will be located at the intersection of A St and the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail. There is free parking available in the area.

First, take a local bus from Matthiessen State Park to the nearest town with bus services, such as Oglesby. From Oglesby, you can catch a Greyhound or regional bus heading to La Salle. Once you arrive in La Salle, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the intersection of A St and the Illinois and Michigan Canal Trail where the I&M Canal Boat is located.
