Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Visitor Center at Matthiessen State Park, head south on the main trail. Continue along the well-marked paths leading towards the canyons. After about 0.5 miles, you will come to a fork in the trail. Take the path that leads to French Canyon, which is clearly signposted. Follow this trail for another 0.3 miles, and you will arrive at the entrance to French Canyon.

  • Biking

    If you have a bike, you can rent one at the park entrance. From the bike rental area, take the main road south towards the hiking trails. Follow the bike-friendly paths until you reach the fork. At the fork, take the path leading to French Canyon. The total biking distance is approximately 1 mile, and the scenic route will enhance your experience.

    If you are driving, there is no direct car access to French Canyon itself, as it is located within the park's hiking area. However, you can park at the main parking lot near the Visitor Center.
