From downtown Naperville, walk to the nearest Metra station, Naperville Station, located at 105 E 4th Ave. Take the BNSF line train towards Chicago Union Station. After approximately a 30-minute ride, disembark at the Chicago Union Station. From there, take the Blue Line subway train towards O'Hare. Get off at the Division station. From Division station, transfer to a bus (Route 70) heading towards Western Avenue. The bus will take you to North Avenue Beach. The total travel time should be around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the time spent waiting for transfers.

Rent a bike from one of the local bike rental shops in Naperville. Start your ride heading north on Washington Street. Continue on Washington Street until you reach the intersection with Ogden Avenue (Route 34). Turn left onto Ogden Avenue and follow it until you reach the I-88 overpass. Take the bike path that runs parallel to I-88 heading towards the east. Cross the DuPage River using the bike path and continue towards the northern end of Naperville. Follow the signs leading to the Prairie Path, which will take you to the outskirts of Chicago. Once you reach the city, navigate using a bike-friendly map to reach North Avenue Beach. This ride will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
