Discover more about DD Collins House

The D.D. Collins House, located at 703 W Main St in Collinsville, Illinois, is a beautifully preserved piece of local history. Built in 1845 by Daniel Dove Collins for his wife Elizabeth, this post-and-beam house is a prime example of Greek Revival architecture, a style reminiscent of ancient temples and popular in the early to mid-19th century. Collins, a cousin of Collinsville's founders and the village's first Board of Trustees president, hosted many early town meetings within its walls. The house's design features five bays marked by six Doric columns supporting the front porch, a hallmark of the Greek Revival style. Inside, visitors can explore authentically restored rooms furnished to reflect the period of 1845-1860, offering a glimpse into 19th-century life. Legend has it that the main beam supporting the house was salvaged from a steamboat stranded by the flood of 1844. Over the years, the D.D. Collins House has been moved twice to accommodate Collinsville's growing business district. In 1998, it was donated to the city and underwent extensive renovations to restore it to its former glory. Today, the house serves as a community anchor, hosting events and welcoming visitors to learn about Collinsville's rich heritage. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
