The Lidice Memorial in Crest Hill, Illinois, is a powerful reminder of the tragic events that befell the village of Lidice in Czechoslovakia during World War II. Crest Hill, Illinois, became one of several places to adopt the name “Lidice” in an act of defiance and remembrance. In 1942, a local developer, Dominic Romano, renamed his neighborhood in Crest Hill to Lidice and erected a memorial.
