Prairie Aviation Museum, Prairie State Travel Guide

The Prairie Aviation Museum, located adjacent to the Central Illinois Regional Airport, is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of aviation. Founded in 1983, the museum strives to educate, entertain, and inspire visitors of all ages through its collection of aircraft, artifacts, and memorabilia.The museum features a diverse range of aircraft, including military jets, helicopters, and civilian planes. Among the notable aircraft on display are the F-14 Tomcat (associated with the movie Top Gun), Bell AH-1J SeaCobra, Bell UH-1H Iroquois (Huey), McDonnell Douglas F-4N Phantom II, and the North American F-100 Super Sabre. In addition to the aircraft, the museum features exhibits such as a 1941 Link Trainer, a Convair 880 simulator, and the cockpit of a B-57. The displays also tell the stories of the men and women who contributed to aviation and space exploration.The Prairie Aviation Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from April to October. It provides an environment where visitors can learn about the contributions of aviation to the community and nation. Knowledgeable volunteers and docents are available to share their expertise and stories, making the experience even more enriching.
