    Access the area via the ADA-accessible Bike Trail, a paved path that links Rock Springs Conservation Area to Fairview Park and Kiwanis Park in Decatur. The Bike Trail is 3.75 miles from start to finish (Rock Springs to Fairview Park/Fairview Ave).

Rock Springs Conservation Area, managed by the Macon County Conservation District, is the largest parkland in Macon County, Illinois. This 1,300-acre natural space, located a few miles southwest of Decatur, provides a diverse range of habitats, including woodlands, wetlands, and restored prairies.The heart of the area is the Rock Springs Nature Center, featuring exhibits, art galleries, and a 'Window on Wildlife'. Visitors can explore the area's history at the restored 19th-century Homestead Prairie Farm. The conservation area boasts over nine miles of trails suitable for hiking, walking, wildlife viewing, and cross-country skiing. The paved Bike Trail connects Rock Springs to Fairview and Kiwanis Parks, offering an accessible route for cyclists. Fishing is permitted in the Sangamon River and several ponds within the conservation area.Historically, the area was a meeting point for Native Americans due to the natural spring. In the early 20th century, part of the land was set aside as a nature center and buffer zone during the construction of a sewage plant. Today, Rock Springs Conservation Area offers a variety of programs, including summer camps, guided hikes, workshops, and living history events. Visitors can also explore the ruins of a historic bottling plant and learn about Miller's Mill, a 19th-century gristmill.
