The Palmer Family Residence, situated on the Brady Street Hill in Davenport, Iowa, is a captivating journey into the lives of Bartlett Joshua (B.J.) Palmer and his wife, Mabel. B.J. Palmer was the son of Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, and played a crucial role in developing and promoting the profession. The house itself, built in 1874 in the Second Empire style, was purchased by the Palmers in 1912. They transformed it into a unique showcase of their personalities and interests. The most notable addition is the 140-foot enclosed porch, added in 1921-1922, which served as an entertaining space and housed a portion of their extensive collection of artifacts acquired during their world travels. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984. Inside, visitors can explore the first floor, which is carefully preserved to reflect the Palmers' life. The rooms display many artifacts collected by the Palmers. B.J. Palmer's favorite room was the rustic room, which incorporated the trunks and branches of four oak trees.
