Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car from the center of Rock River Valley, head south on IL-2 towards I-80. Merge onto I-80 E and continue for approximately 20 miles. Take exit 308A for IL-50 S towards Kankakee. After about 15 miles, take the exit for IL-102 S. Continue on IL-102 for about 5 miles until you reach Kankakee River State Park, located at 5314 IL-102, Bourbonnais, IL 60914. There is no entry fee for the park.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Kankakee River State Park via public transportation, you can take a Metra train from various locations in Rock River Valley towards Chicago. Transfer to the Metra SouthWest Service Line at the Chicago Union Station and take it to the Kankakee Station. From Kankakee Station, you can take a local taxi or rideshare service to the park. The distance from the station to the park is approximately 8 miles, and taxi fare may vary, typically ranging from $15-25.

• Bike

  For those adventurous enough to bike, you can follow the Kankakee River Trail which connects to the state park. Starting from downtown Kankakee, head south along the river on the trail. The distance is about 8 miles, and it takes approximately 40-50 minutes to bike there, depending on your pace. Ensure you have a bike lock as there are bike racks available at the park entrance.
